How should one respond to a friend request one does not recognise?

If you have no qualms about appearing ‘harsh’ then hitting ‘reject’ on their friend request represents the most straightforward was to deal with this situation. But one of the main points of Facebook is ‘having’ friends and connecting to one another so you could just click ‘add friend’ and try and rack your brains as to who the hell this is, whilst awaiting a response for ‘friend details’, or snooping on their profile page for some clarity. Another strategy is to see who their friends are and if you share any in common, Facebook handily reveals this on the left side of your screen. Make sure that you list this potential with only limited access to your profile, can’t have them snooping on potentially revealing well posts, contact information and so forth if you have no idea who they are!
