#242 I want them to be impressed by what I’m doing

Tuesday 9th March, 2010

Dear Mariann,

Hi I’m a new Facebook recruit. LOT of Friend Requests. But what’s the best way to catch up, without getting involved with lots of boring conversation. Plus I don’t want friends to know about my new job, but I do want then to be impressed by what I’m doing….

(From Jamie Cul in the reply to post #240 being Olympic)

You could try a few new image uploads displayed in the style of Bond. Then you’re friends will either be impressed, or consider you a supreme w*nk*r. Either way you’re sure to get some more traffic to your page.

As your current situation does sound That dull – I don’t want my friends to know about my job (man of mystery (?)) – may I suggest that things could be livened up by experimenting with your new position. Perhaps a trip to the stationary cupboard and switching around of paper clips for staples. This way both you and your reconnected Facebook friends can be suitably excited by all those potentially ‘boring’ conversations that you so dread.

So far your friends sound fabulously tolerant. I would have defriended you and left you out in the friend no-zone without bothering to push you further down my newsfeed ages ago by now.

please if you can address Vampire’s question — it’s like there’s something kind of `censorship’ between fb and rl. are we all getting ‘attached’ (not to say ‘chained’) up to the nets to make us more docile subjects/citizens like ser Huxley’s new World? is fb another arm of ‘crime prevention’ keeping us monitored and off the streets?

There’s a grass on in my life. I want to up the security on my Facebook page and lock down my Profile. I’m deleting a LOT of friends (cos I am so popular). There’s always LOADs written about me on their pages and I am fed up with it. I’ve been tagged on YouTube having a good time when my fella was away. Now he is mad and I have to justify myself all the time. It’s not in my nature to be fake, or have fake people around me. Am I Doing the right thing? I don’t want to be at a stand still, but I do want some relief from living life in the spotlight. Nothing beats your privacy right. Also should I take down my five year old daughter’s page?… thanks K. x
